Here is a deviation from my usual papercraft content: A web application I recently created. It’s an ‘allowance bank’ for kids. The idea came to me when I was on a trip with my own kids. They wanted to buy something, and I knew they had some money back at home in their piggy bank, but I didn’t know how much.
It would have been very nice to be able to look into their piggy bank account with my mobile phone. Enter Tageba, the allowance bank.
This is a small web application where you can create an account for your kid and administrate their allowance. This is not online money – the money stays in your (and your kid’s) pocket. The website just helps you keep track of how much money your kid has, and where it goes.
It’s a nice and safe way for kids to learn about money and how it works. And about online security. And about planning the future. And… well, you get the idea: It’s very useful. You can set up automated allowance payments per week or month, and you can even pay out automated interest on your kid’s balance. A nice incentive for saving up.
